Bb Curved Soprano
Manufacturer: Pierret
Model: Unlabelled
Serial #: 11975
Finish: Silver plated
Source: babluth on eBay.com
This is a rather rare bird among the Pierret family of saxophones. It is the first, at to to date only, curved soprano that I have seen by this saxophone-only manufacturer.
What's also interesting is that the neck was detachable. At this time most curved sopranos were 1-piece, and had fixed necks.
The reason that I believe that this is an "Unlabelled" and not a "Nil Melior" model, is that the name "Nil Melior" & the word "Déposé” appears on quite a few Pierret bells. These other horns—a number of which appear in this gallery—are in fact named models like Modele 5 and Standard.
Most likely "Nil Melior" was the name on the patent, but I haven't spent enough time trying to research what exactly these patents might have been for. Pierret was issued a lot of patents for various saxophone improvements in the early part of the 20th century. |
