Description: Eb Alto
Manufacturer: Max Keilwerth
Stencil Name: Josef Lídl
Serial #: 5061
Finish: Nickel plated
Source: saxofonservis.eu

Josef Lidl is a Czech manufacturer of musical instruments. It was founded in what was then Moravia in 1892. It is the oldest manufacturer of instruments in the Czech republic. The company is based in Brno.

The company specializes in brass instruments, and based on the variety of saxophones both Pete and I have managed to find online, it is clear that Josef Lidl used a variety manufacturers to produce their horns.

This Josef Lídl alto was built by Max Keilwerth at the time when he was working independently—after his time at Adler & FX Hüller, and before he was employed by Hohner.

The saxophones that Max Keilwerth built can be clearly identified by the Pure Tone Trademark stamp just above the serial #.

Like all the professional model horns built by the Keilwerth brothers, and other high-end European horn makers of the time, this sax had rolled tone holes and a microtuner.
