Eb Alto
Manufacturer: Conn
Model: Transitional New Wonder (6M)
Serial #: M245XXX
Finish: Artist's Special
Source: Randy Cole
This sax—like all transitional horns—has features from both the New Wonder and the Artist series. From the previous New Wonder series, this sax has: a mircotuner; a fork Eb key; and the left pinkie cluster. From the (at the time) up and coming Artist series, the sax has the unslung octave key and left-sided bell keys.
This particular sax is finished with Conn's most expensive finish: 00—or Artist's Special as it is more commonly called. These horns were heavily plated with hand burnished gold (meaning a mirror-like finish, as opposed to the more common satin, or matte finish). This hand burnish extended to the inside of bell, engraving background, keys, posts and ferrules. The Artist's Special also had pearl rollers and a great deal of hand engraving on the bell.
