Can You Play A Sax While Hanging Upside Down?

Well even before I developed my current neurological condition, which has totally messed up my body’s balance system, I’m not sure I could have pulled off this particular feat. But Hungarian-born, singer, saxophone player, and all around stage entertainer, Marcellina, has managed to incorporate upside down saxophone playing, into a performance of What Is The Answer.

While the inverted playing might signal the climax of this particular performance, the rest of the song is rich with imagery drawn from magic; black/white symbolism; and Marcellina’s signature performance style. She is somewhat of a chameleon, and can draw from many different artistic styles in her shows.

Marcellina, who is well known throughout Europe for her signature use of a white alto saxophone, started performing at the age of 14. She has a lot of accomplishments under her belt, including: 8 records, numerous television appearances in Europe and Asia, as well as performances in China and America, and numerous tours throughout Europe.

In my opinion, Marcellina is one of those rare performers who is a true entertainer. She embodies the qualities that many of us strive for, but so few actually attain. She manages to engage the audience through her various talents—whether it be singing, dancing, playing sax, or just being the front person for her band—and then builds a connection to keep the audience members engaged throughout the performance.

Watching Marcellina’s videos, makes me miss Germany. She is very much a European performer, and some of her pop songs—with their European sound—make me want to pull out my old German tapes and CDs.

Marcellina is a reader of my website, and has left comments in the past. I do hope that she might drop in and say a few words about this, or another one of her performances sometime.
