Under The Category Of What Were They Thinking…

Over the years I’ve noted how saxophones have become synonymous with certain things, and have come to symbolize the very thing that they are synonymous with. This leads to saxophone imagery popping up the world over indicating music, live music, jazz, and of course even the opposite of these: Don’t you dare think of playing music here!

However, when I saw this particular saxophone image on eBay this morning, I must admit I was stumped. A pin promoting substance abuse prevention with a tenor saxophone on it? WTF? 😕

I guess this gives a whole new meaning to the term safer sax. Groan…

If anyone can give me a good reason why they would have put a sax on a prevention works pin, I’m all ears. I’m not seeing a connection.

If this quirky pin appeals to you, the seller has 2 available, so you have a good chance of getting one… Since I can’t see 1 selling, let alone 2. (Although secretly I’m coveting them, so you’d best get in there early, because I might just swoop in and scoop up both of these babies.) 😆

…this is just my blog. My “real” website is www.bassic-sax.info. If you’re looking for sax info, you should check it out too. There’s lots there!

  1. I figure it was most likely the result of a poorly thought out campaign, that when handed off to the designer, didn’t have a graphic attached to it. When the designer asked them: “What graphic do you want?” The Center for Substance Abuse Prevention staffer probably said something along the lines of: “Oh, I don’t know. I play sax, they’re cool, how ’bout one of those.” Or something along those lines.

Woops 😳 I forgot the appropriate smilie :devil2:

Or maybe they are suggesting G.A.S. as a therapeutic substitute for compulsive behavior involving drugs? :devil1:
