I noticed an interesting photo on Flickr the other day. It was of a sax sculpture in Seattle that I haven’t seen before.

This interesting blue metal sax sculpture makes me happy. It reminds me of the saxophone-shaped 3 foot high CD holder that I was given years ago as a Christmas gift. It originally came from Europe somewhere, which until a friend of mine saw it, was in an import shop in Halifax, NS.
The blue colour, of course, reminds me of Houston, Texas’ Smoke Sax, now that it has been repainted. Speaking of Smoke Sax, I wonder how its move went. Anyone reading this from Houston? Mark, are you around ATM? What happened to that enormous, blue, metal sax sculpture? It’s not like it’s subtle or anything like that.
It was a year ago this month that Smoke Sax was supposed to have been moved to its new home at the Orange Show Center for Visionary Art. A quick check of their website though, made no mention of the big, blue, saxophone sculpture crafted in part of VW Beetle bodies and parts.
Getting back to the blue metal sax sculpture in Seattle, Jazz Alley is a jazz club in Seattle. The club will be hosting some of the most well-known and respected jazz, R&B, soul, and funk players in the next 6 months.
For example: Mindi Abair, David Sanborn, Richard Elliot, Kenny G, Ernie Watts, and Maceo Parker, are just a few of the well-known sax players who will be on stage at Jazz Alley. Check out the club’s Calendar page for a complete listing of all the acts that will be performing.
