Yes, you read that right: it says Smurfs. Those weird, little, blue cartoon creatures that originated in Belgium in the late 1950s.
Back when I was a small child living in Germany in the mid 1970s, everyone was collecting these plastic figures. Who would have thought that they would still be a collectible 30 years later? Well apparently they are a hot collectible in certain niche markets. Don’t believe me? Just search for Smurf, or Smurf figure on eBay and see what turns up.
I still have a bunch of these little plastic guys in a box somewhere, but I know I don’t have a saxophone player. If I wanted to add a saxophone playing Smurf to my collection, there are a number of options for me to choose from.
This first little fellow is in located in France, and is being sold by a seller who seems to specialize in Smurf collectibles. His Buy It Now price is €14.99, which eBay estimates to be $20.40 US. If no one buys him, his auction ends on December 1.

This second little guy is being sold by the same seller, and seems to be the same, or similar as the previous Smurf. (Perhaps you have to be a serious Smurf collector to recognize any possible differences.) His auction runs until December 16. The Buy It Now price on him is €18.99, or approximately $25.84 US.

Smurf #3 is different, and by the look of him is an older, perhaps more vintage Smurf. He too is being sold by serious Smurf dealer Merlhyn. His Buy It Now price is €10.99, or $14.96 US. His auction ends on December 5.

And finally we come to sax playing Smurf #4. This little, original blue man ships from France as well, but from a different seller. He is the same as #3, but has a Buy It Now Price of €9.90, or $13.47 US. But fear not, this seller shows that they have 9 available for purchase. Enough to form your own Smurf saxophone orchestra! 😉

Psst… Check out the background wallpaper. There is some serious smurfing going on in that room. 😆
So if you know a saxophone player who is a Smurf collector, or you just want to buy an unexpected, rather quirky saxophone collectible for the sax player in your life, one of these little blue guys might just be the thing you’re looking for.
If you’d like to find out more about these original little blue men—who have been called kiddie cocaine—you can check out the Smurf Wiki page.
I honestly had no idea that there was such a weird world of smurf collecting out there until I did a bit of research for this post. To be honest, I was somewhat stunned. But then I guess I shouldn’t be too surprised, after all eBay has opened up the attics and garage sales to everyone in the world with an Internet connection. A yes, it truly is a global village… United by smurfs.
If you get 3 you could have your own Blue Man Group. 💡
So where do you get the Smurf curtains? Just kidding. :O)
