Bassic Sax is now 25 years old. For most of those years I have created—or been involved in the creation—of a Christmas and/or holiday card for the various websites that have inhabited the .ca and now .info domains.
In the very early years these greetings were Adobe Flash illustrations set to music, which sadly are no longer supported. Since the creation of the Bassic Sax Blog, I learned my lesson, and instead opted instead for more traditional
electronic, visual cards. By far and away the majority of these cards feature Photoshopped versions of my bass saxophone in Christmas scenes of one type of another.
Last year however, I tried my hand at something new, and opted to try the AI engine that Microsoft incorporated into its 365 Office Suite. The results? Rather hit and miss. It took a lot of time, effort, and no doubt a lot of electricity, to produce literally a couple hundred of fails before a couple of hits were produced that I could edit in Photoshop.
This year with Copilot being 1 year older, and more sophisticated, I thought I would give it another try and see what it could do.
Being a Gen X’er, there is a retro-inspired style I am quite fond of: Retrowave, AKA synthwave, which pays homage to the 1980s aesthetic. But rather than use the usual sports car we see in synthwave images, I uploaded a photo of my actual 1991 Volvo, 240 wagon, and inputted my directions into Copilot until I got the desired results: My vintage Volvo wagon acting as Santa’s ersatz reindeer to deliver saxophones for Christmas. More to the point, a Bassic Sax holiday greeting like never before.
Regardless of which of the holidays you celebrate this season, may they be filled with love and light, and be full of friends and family.

Lots of great memories. Merry Christmas to you and Marj. Janet Crawford
Oh yes Janet. So many lovely memories. I do miss you, and of course Hans. The holidays were always special around your place.
I replied to your email you sent but I am guessing you never got it. I will send one again and see if we can’t connect. I would like to hear your voice. It has been way too long!
Lots of love… h & m
Happy holidays Helen.
Love the Volvo 245 wagon. I have one. Looks like Santa is gifting a few C tenors too.
Great card, thanks!
Happy holidays and wishing you great 2026.

Nice to hear I’m not the only vintage sax player who likes the Volvo 240 series. I know there is at least 1, 1800 series lover in the mix as well. 😉
Best wishes this season, and all the best for 2026! … helen
