For years I’ve had 1 or 2 saxophones hanging in my house as wall art. In the last little while that number has grown. Here are a few pictures of some of my retirees, as they hang around providing ambiance in various areas of the house.
The Gallotone tenor a recently bought from a player in North Vancouver is hanging in the stairwell.
It is the perfect companion to the Martin Handcraft C Melody, which has been there for a few years already.
The Martin has developed a great patina from being out in the air for so many years. Its silver finish has taken on an almost pearlized look.
The La Monte tenor in my living room, has had these artists’ mannequins climbing on and out of it for years. They add a further bit of whimsy to the already eclectic idea of saxophones as “art”.
While I realize that I will not be granted any kind of Martha Stewart award for interior design, a number of my friends have commented that there is no mistaking my house with anyone else’s. Mmm…I’m not sure if they meant that as a compliment, but I’ll take it as one! 😀
