Don’t Stop: A Great Sax Solo From The 80s

One of my favourite saxophone solos from the 1980s is likely one that you’ve never heard before. Chilliwack was a rock band from British Columbia, Canada that had originally formed under the name The Classics, in 1964.¹

At the time Canadian music had a difficult time getting recognized outside of the Canadian borders, so it would be a couple of decades before Chilliwack hit the big time with songs like: My Girl (Gone, Gone, Gone) (1981), I Believe (1982), and Whatcha Gonna Do (When I’m Gone) (1982).

The song Don’t Stop, was a single originally released in 1983 on Chilliwack’s Segue album, and featured extensive saxophone lines intricately woven around the vocals, as well as a couple of sax solos.

Although this song didn’t do as well in the charts as their previous hits, this has always been my favourite Chilliwack song.

Unfortunately the name of the sax player is a mystery. (I have the 2002 digitally remastered version of Chilliwack’s 1994 Greatest Hits album, and the player’s name isn’t provided there IIRC.)

If you have been/still are a Chilliwack fan, the 1 constant of the band, Bill Henderson, owns and maintains the official Chilliwack website. Hairstyle and fashion may come and go, but the music and memories remain.

    1. I don’t know. He isn’t given credit online anywhere that I could find. Because I’m in process of moving, and still living out of 2 houses, all of my CDs are still at the other house.

I’ll take a look at the booklet that came with the CD next time I’m at the other house, and see if he’s mentioned by name.
