Swanee Slide Sax For Sale on eBay

Now here’s a rare vintage saxophone up for sale on eBay: a Swanee slide a sax. The seller simply describes the horn this way:

This is a silver plated swanee slide saxophone. Tarnished and in need of a clean but in good condition with just one small dent…see picture. Original case with tutor and care manual. Takes a soprano sax reed.

The auction for this Swanee-Sax ends on October 9. At the time of writing there were 4 bids on this vintage horn, which is located in London, England. The high bid was GBD 460.00, which eBay shows as equivalent to approximately $732.90 US.

BTW, I was going to write an article about the slide saxophone for my blog a while ago. However, the site redesign of the main portion of my website is taking up much of the time that I could normally spend researching and compiling photos. (I have some great before & after photos of a Reiffel & Husted slide sax that recently got restored. I received them from both the original, and new owners of the sax.)

So instead of doing an article for my blog, I’ve decided to include a section on slide saxophones on my revamped website instead. Once this new section is written, I’ll try and remember to link this article to it.

You might also want to check out this thread on SOTW, in which a Swanee-Sax owner has posted some interesting information about the restoration of his sax.

…this is just my blog. My “real” website is www.bassic-sax.info. If you’re looking for sax info, you should check it out too. There’s lots there!

    1. Hi tommy. Well a couple of things: 1. I never had it for sale. I just showed an eBay listing. 2. If you notice the date of this post, it is 10 years old! 3. So sorry, if you look at the comments below, you’ll notice this Swanee slider sold for $1200 back then.

I haven’t seen many on the market recently. They seem to come in waves. Someone puts on eBay, and then another pops up, and another. Then nothing for a long while. You have to be patient, and be ready to jump when one does appear.

Wow…. just stumbled upon this via google. This particular sax belonged to my grandfather! How weird is that! He was given it many years ago during his time playing drums in big bands and Dixieland jazz bands.

    1. Hi Adele. Welcome to my site.

Thanks for the link to the Swanee Slide Sax. Is it your listing by chance?

It’s too bad that the bell is so banged up. Other than that, if all the parts are there, like the seller says they are, the remainder of the horn appears to be in decent shape.

    1. Update: Yes, this slide sax did indeed sell for GBP 698.00 (or about $1,112.05 US, according to eBay). In the end there were 8 bids on this rare little beastie.

I was thinking you might go for it Jim. I didn’t think you had one of these yet in your collection of weird & wonderful horns. It would be a nice companion horn for your soprillo. 😉
