\"Bassic<\/a><\/p>\n

This blog is the magazine portion of the Bassic Sax<\/a> website belonging to saxophonist and former teacher, Helen Kahlke. It is a culmination of over 20 years of work, and involves quite a few people.<\/p>\n

A big shout-out goes out to everyone who has, and continues to write articles, does technical support and research, and maintains things on a day to day basis. <\/p>\n

Helen is a saxophonist\/clarinetist who lives in the Metro Vancouver Region of British Columbia. She plays soprano, alto, C melody, tenor, baritone, and bass saxophones, and doubles on bass and Bb clarinets. <\/p>\n

Helen has been playing horn for more than 30 years, and has played in a wide variety of musical settings including: rock, blues, R&B, jazz, Latin, concert, dance, and swing bands, as well as sax ensembles, pit orchestras, and small combos. She has also done studio and solo work.<\/p>\n

\"Selmer<\/a><\/p>\n

Besides being an experienced player, Helen has Master\u2019s degree in Adult Education, and has many years teaching experience. She knows that using different teaching techniques are necessary when working with students, since there many ways to convey the same information, and not everyone learns things in the same way. <\/p>\n

Although she is has had to medically retire from teaching, she still consults with other instructors, and assists them in developing materials and with equipment advice. <\/p>\n

When Helen isn’t researching her main love (mid-century German saxophones) she is gathering images of those same saxes for the gallery she and her vintage saxophone buddy, Pete Hales\u2014the man formerly known as Saxpics\u2014jointly run.
