That was the music of my youth, and it was the type of saxophone&nbsp;solo that shaped my choice to want to play rock sax. (And, it was Jr. Walker&#8217;s&nbsp;work in <em>Foreigner&#8217;s<\/em> 1981 hit <em>Urgent<\/em>, that drove me into screaming altissimo studies.) \ud83d\ude08<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Billy Joel - It&#039;s Still Rock and Roll to Me (Official HD Video)\" width=\"1174\" height=\"881\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/5eAQa4MOGkE?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Last night I attended my first-ever grad reunion. Because of living on the other side of the country, or having other engagements on the nights of the previous reunions, I hadn&#8217;t been able to attend any of the&nbsp;earlier ones. Last night however, I was was really glad that I was able to go.<\/p>\n<p>I was able to reconnect with some friends from school, most of whom I hadn&#8217;t seen in 30 years. The most special part of the evening for me, was reconnecting with my tenor sax partner from high school. Bev&nbsp;reminded me about this funny thing that happened while we were in school, that I still have no clear memory of.<\/p>\n<p>Apparently we were rehearsing for a&nbsp;music festival,&nbsp;and I was helping Bev with her part. However, for some reason we did it via telephone. She had the phone beside her, and she would play her part. I would then critique her on it, and she would replay whatever was necessary. According to Bev, this went on for hours.<\/p>\n<p>Talk about low tech\/early days&nbsp;of remote saxophone instruction. We&#8217;ve come a long way baby\u2014in the last 30 years. Hell, we don&#8217;t even use <a href=\"http:\/\/upload.wikimedia.org\/wikipedia\/commons\/e\/ed\/Telefon04_2.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">rotary dial phones<\/a> anymore. \ud83d\ude06<\/p>\n<p>I can see myself spending time with Bev working on her part, but honestly don&#8217;t remember doing it. I wonder how we did in the festival? <a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/bassic-sax.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/06\/icon_scratch.gif?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-attachment-id=\"251\" data-permalink=\"https:\/\/bassic-sax.info\/blog\/2011\/the-crown-saxophone-tone-modulator\/icon_scratch\/\" data-orig-file=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/bassic-sax.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/06\/icon_scratch.gif?fit=20%2C20&amp;ssl=1\" data-orig-size=\"20,20\" data-comments-opened=\"1\" data-image-title=\"icon_scratch\" data-image-description=\"\" data-image-caption=\"\" data-large-file=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/bassic-sax.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/06\/icon_scratch.gif?fit=20%2C20&amp;ssl=1\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-251\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/bassic-sax.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/06\/icon_scratch.gif?resize=20%2C20&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"20\" height=\"20\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It was interesting looking through the old yearbooks that people had brought, and the photos that they shared. I think&nbsp;it&#8217;s a shame that social media sites like Facebook, and digital images snapped on cameras and cell phones,&nbsp;are replacing the tactile, hard copies of yesteryear, for today&#8217;s grads.<\/p>\n<p>You see, I have an inherent distrust of technology.
