Using an alto sax as a bong, now why hadn&#8217;t a band from BC\u2014where the famous <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/BC_Bud\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">BC bud<\/a> comes from\u2014thought of that before?<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Vampire Weekend - Diane Young\" width=\"1174\" height=\"660\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/oG6lTQNW04I?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>When we think of all the ways that saxophone imagery has permeated popular culture, using a sax as a bong is likely a new, and rather creative utilization of our instrument. I&#8217;ll let you decide for yourself why the guy sitting in Jesus&#8217; spot at the table is wearing a balaclava, or why he is included in the band&#8217;s final frames of the video\u2014since the band is officially only a 4 piece.<\/p>\n<p>You might remember that I originally wrote about this song <a href=\"http:\/\/bassic-sax.info\/blog\/?p=37600\">late last month,<\/a> when the video of their performance on <em>SNL<\/em> first came out. At the time it was memorable, because&nbsp;<em>Vampire Weekend<\/em> brought bass sax player Stefan Zeniuk along when they performed live.<\/p>\n<p>Notwithstanding the video&#8217;s use of burning of moss as ersatz marijuana in an alto sax as a bong, we can clearly hear the bass sax holding down the bass line in the recording of &#8220;Diane Young&#8221;.
