While I was researching a painted saxophone for someone who had asked me a question, I happened across the website of Delaware artist Julie Borden<\/a>. Julie paints a lot of different things, but of special interest to me, were her hand painted saxophones.<\/p>\n

As I was looking at Julie’s art work, I immediately started to wonder: Just what kind of saxophones is she using? These don’t look like $49 eBay specials.<\/p>\n

Not so fast. It turns out that Julie Borden claims<\/a> that a person can play their horn after it’s been painted…<\/p>\n

Juleez hand painted custom horns are playable, but many of our clients choose to display them. Each piece is a unique work of art and makes a great statement to any show, performance or room.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Playable? Really? No paint got on the pads during the process? I can see that Julie would do this with an old Bundy tenor…<\/p>\n

Not a Selmer fan? Or perhaps you’re looking for an alto. Julie offers Yamaha YAS-62, as well as the intermediate level YAS-480.<\/p>\n

If none of the 16 different makes and models of saxophones that Julie Borden sells appeals to you, don’t forget you can always send her your horn.<\/p>\n

I must admit, the idea of a hand painted saxophone really quite appealed to me, so I decided to take my bass to a friend of mine, and let him go crazy with his paints. I figured the bass would give him a bigger canvas to work with. I think he did just an amazing job…<\/p>\n
