It&#8217;s a given that something titled, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.filmindustrynetwork.biz\/musicians-shoot-music-video-flame-thrower-saxophone\/23563\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Musicians shoot music video with a flame thrower Saxophone<\/em><\/a>, is going to my attention. <a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/bassic-sax.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/surprised-005.gif?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-attachment-id=\"54999\" data-permalink=\"https:\/\/bassic-sax.info\/blog\/2013\/another-slam-against-the-sax-from-1921\/surprised-005-2\/\" data-orig-file=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/bassic-sax.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/surprised-005.gif?fit=18%2C30&amp;ssl=1\" data-orig-size=\"18,30\" data-comments-opened=\"1\" data-image-title=\"surprised-005\" data-image-description=\"\" data-image-caption=\"\" data-large-file=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/bassic-sax.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/surprised-005.gif?fit=18%2C30&amp;ssl=1\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-54999\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/bassic-sax.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/surprised-005.gif?resize=18%2C30&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"18\" height=\"30\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>After watching the remake of the 1960&#8217;s&nbsp;Ellie Goulding tune, <em>Burn&#8230;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Burn - Vintage &#039;60s Girl Group Ellie Goulding Cover feat. Robyn Adele Anderson\" width=\"1174\" height=\"660\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/LZY9_Xr5XPA?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&#8230; I had a bunch of questions running through my mind. Questions like:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Did he get any lacquer burns on his bell?<\/li>\n<li>How about himself? Did he burn or singe his fingers, or maybe any hair anywhere?<\/li>\n<li>Would I do this to my horn?<\/li>\n<li>How much would I have to get paid to do this to my horn?<\/li>\n<li>What controls the amount of flame coming out of the bell?<\/li>\n<li>What generated the flame?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Being the curious type, I did some research about this flamethrower sax. That research answered a number of these questions for me.<\/p>\n<p>The first thing I immediately recognized was the name of the baritone player: Stefan Zeniuk. I first came across his name almost a year ago to the day, when he appeared playing <a href=\"http:\/\/bassic-sax.info\/blog\/?p=37600&amp;cpage=1#comment-35322\">bass saxophone with Vampire Weekend <\/a>on SNL.<\/p>\n<p>It turns out Stefan has written about&nbsp;this flamethrower sax <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stefanzeniuk.com\/#\/flameophone\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">on his website<\/a>. There he explains, in general terms, how it works. Not only that, but there&#8217;s contact info provided in case you want to buy one of these babies for your very own&#8230;&nbsp; <a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/bassic-sax.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/08\/shocked.gif?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-attachment-id=\"461\" data-permalink=\"https:\/\/bassic-sax.info\/blog\/2008\/extra-extra-read-all-about-it\/shocked-2\/\" data-orig-file=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/bassic-sax.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/08\/shocked.gif?fit=25%2C25&amp;ssl=1\" data-orig-size=\"25,25\" data-comments-opened=\"1\" data-image-title=\"shocked\" data-image-description=\"\" data-image-caption=\"\" data-large-file=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/bassic-sax.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/08\/shocked.gif?fit=25%2C25&amp;ssl=1\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-461\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/bassic-sax.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/08\/shocked.gif?resize=25%2C25&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"25\" height=\"25\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This is what Stefan says about this flamethrower sax\u2014which he calls a <a href=\"http:\/\/static.squarespace.com\/static\/533b2914e4b09e39bf18325c\/t\/5344d585e4b03717b4442e44\/1397020039269\/image.jpg?format=1000w\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Flame-O-Phone<\/a>, BTW:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The Flame-O-Phone (\u00a9-pending) is a one-of-a-kind modified baritone saxophone that spews up to 5 feet of flame out of the bell. The initial conception dates back to 2007, when I was on tour with a traveling burlesque troupe, but the horn itself didn&#8217;t materialize until 2010 when I met Ben Bartelle, a master fire scultor. We built an initial prototype, and, though completely and totally awesome, the horn was bulky, awkward, and malfunctioned frequently.<\/p>\n<p>Around 2012 Ben Bartelle &amp; I decided to make a fully operational, totally slick design. I used a beautiful 1920 King White Model baritone sax. His new design featured a single propane tank attached to the side of the horn, a propellent device rigged up just below the left-hand octave key, and a trigger that controls the amount of propane, thus giving me dynamic control for the flame.<\/p>\n<p>The Flame-O-Phone has been used in events all around NYC, from high-end hotel bars to punk-rock clubs.
