\"\"<\/a>It’s hard to believe that it was just a mere 3 weeks ago that I published my last article here in the Bassic Sax Blog<\/em>, announcing that I had published previously unknown information on the Superba I & II bass saxophones built for H. Couf by the Julius Keilwerth company in Germany. As summer 2025 draws to a conclusion, I have opted for the comfort of air conditioning during the day in order to finish the long-overdue H. Couf saxophone pages. <\/p>\n

The Superba I & II soprano page<\/a> has been completely redone, is now much more complete, and consistent with the rest of the H. Couf horn descriptions. Also finished, are the Superba I & II baritone pages<\/a>.<\/p>\n

These pages add A LOT to the body of knowledge for vintage and stencil saxophones in general, as well as Keilwerth\u2014and arguably their most-successful stencil\u2014in particular.<\/p>\n

Couf saxophones were, and remain to this day, one of the most popular vintage saxophones in the marketplace. However, when I got my first Couf\u2014the Blackgold low A bari in Oct. 2018\u2014there was very little concrete information available. Even normally knowledgeable vintage sax dealers seemed stymied by the total lack of fact-based research in the area. <\/p>\n

This led me to jokingly saying to Paul Maslin<\/a>: Give me a year or so. I’ll have the brand researched and written up for my site.<\/em> Little did I know I would end up down a rabbit hole of Excel spreadsheets with reams of datapoints on each model for 5 voices of horns. What was I thinking?  \"\" <\/a> <\/p>\n

Although the main H. Couf page was finished in a year, it took years to gather enough data; collate that data; and finally write it all up into these new pages that I am pleased to announce today are finally available online.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s Next?<\/h3>\n

One thing that all this data collation has shown me is that there were some errors and omissions in the original, main H. Couf page<\/a>. So here\u2019s the workplan for the remainder of the summer:<\/p>\n

  1. Write up the Superba I & II bass saxophone page. <\/del> Done <\/strong><\/li>\n
  2. Update the Superba I & II soprano page.<\/del> Done <\/strong><\/li>\n
  3. Completely redo the H. Couf main page so it resembles the new pages in navigation and style; update its contents; and add the new content I have.<\/li>\n
  4. Get the Superba I & II baritone pages done.<\/del> Done <\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    I have some backend stuff on the server to get fixed up. Once that is sorted out, I will get to work on #3 and finally be able to say that the H. Couf section is finished.
