(Pete) On saxpics.com, I had wondered if Kohlert had hit 100,000 horns before shutting down in 1977. The answer is a resounding "yes."
Further, the horn that may have the highest serial number is a C melody, with a s/n of 100,099 (or 88; there's a lot of wear on and by the s/n).
That's at least 10 years newer than the newest non-Chinese/non-Taiwanese C melody I've heard of, a Vito from the 1960s.
