Welcome to the 7th <\/sup>incarnation of Bassic-Sax.ca\u2014now Bassic-Sax.info\u2014home to one of the largest saxophone sites on the Net. all totalled, this site is well north of 50,000 pages! With new pages added almost daily by either myself or Pete Hales. Yes, you read that right, Pete Hales.<\/p>\n

A new look for 2021<\/h2>\n

If you have ever come to my website over the past 15 or so years, you will likely notice that it is now completely different in colour. Yup, after more than a decade of having a dark and black backgrounds, I have opted for pale grey. <\/p>\n

Why this radical shift? I will be straight up with you. It was not my first choice. However, I recently did some research on website preferences and found out how few people liked dark sites, and how it actually effected information retention rates. <\/p>\n

Given my site is information based, I made the decision to change it to dark print on a light background. But if you prefer dark backgrounds\u2014or like me suffer from photophobia and light backgrounds cause eye pain\u2014then have no fear. Notice the moon icon in the left lower corner? That allows you to enable a dark mode setting. Is it perfect? No. But it is better than suffering through the light background that so more than 80% of web users prefer. Yes, us dark mode users are very much in the minority. <\/p>\n

Bassic Sax Pix & The Sax.info Gallery are now one<\/h2>\n

Well known saxophone historian, and all around really nice guy, Pete Hales, and I have been working together on a number of projects for years. A few years ago when it became obvious that both of our websites would benefit from VPS space, we decided to become virtual room mates. The next logical step was to combine our efforts, and rather than duplicate much of the information in our saxophone galleries, we opted to combine our galleries into one large one. With that rather simple decision, Bassic Sax Pix & The Sax.info Gallery<\/a> was born.<\/p>\n

What you’ll find on the various sections of Bassic-sax.info<\/h2>\n

This website<\/h4>\n

Since my love is vintage saxophones, they are very well represented on Bassic-sax.info. I have focused a lot on European saxes, and specifically, ones of German origin. I\u2019ve opted to write about the brand names that are rather uncommon, and for which very little has previously been written in English.<\/p>\n

Bassic Sax is the home for definitive info on brands such as: Hammerschmidt<\/a>, D\u00f6rfler & J\u00f6rka<\/a>, the Hohner President<\/a>, H. Couf<\/a>, Max Keilwerth<\/a>, Akustik<\/a>, Weltklang<\/a>, and B&S AKA Blue Label<\/a>\u2014just to name some.<\/p>\n

Although my focus is vintage horns, certain modern, German horns are of great interest to me as well. In particular, the saxophones that B&S made post-unification were previously not well researched and written about. With the modern horns of B&S<\/a> section, those too are now extremely well documented and illustrated on my website.<\/p>\n

The Bassic Sax Blog<\/h4>\n

The Bassic Sax Blog<\/a>\u2014which some people have thought is a site unto itself\u2014is really just a part of Bassic-Sax.info. As of December 31 2020, there are 2.144 published posts, in 67 categories, with 443 tags.<\/p>\n

Bassic Sax Pix<\/h4>\n

The gallery portion of my site, Bassic Sax Pix<\/a>, is a catalogue of images that Pete and I have chosen that represent some of the most interesting, unique, beautiful, or important saxophones ever made. As of December 7, 2020, Bassic Sax Pix is home to 61,615 images in 5657 albums, with many more on the way.<\/p>\n

No matter how you look at it, that\u2019s a whole lotta\u2019 sax all in one place! And I am far from finished. As you go look through this, the main portion of Bassic Sax, you\u2019ll stumble across sections that I\u2019m still in the process of working on.<\/p>\n
