Source: Mark Wiseman.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The VEB Blechblas- und Signal-Instrumenten-Fabrik (B&amp;S), was created on January 1, 1953. It was formed through the merger of 3 VEBs: the S\u00e4chsische Musikinstrumentenfabrik (formerly Ernst He\u00df Nachf.); the Signal-Instrumenten-Fabrik Markneukirchen (Max B. Martin); and the Vogtl\u00e4ndische Etuifabrik Adorf (Walther).<\/p>\n<p>VEB means <em>Volkseigener Betrieb<\/em>, the legal form of an industrial enterprise in East Germany. These were publicly owned and were routinely combined with other organizational units called Kombinate. The English term for a VEB would be people-owned enterprise, or literally, <em>National Corporation<\/em>.<sup>1<\/sup><\/p>\n<p>In 1974 3 more firms came under the B&amp;S umbrella, these were: Sonora (formerly <a href=\"http:\/\/bassic-sax.info\/version5\/vintage-saxes\/european-made-saxes\/oscar-adler\">Oscar Adler<\/a>); Spezial-Holzblasinstrumente Markneukirchen (M\u00f6nnig); and Holzblasinstrumente Sch\u00f6neck (<a href=\"http:\/\/bassic-sax.info\/version5\/vintage-saxes\/european-made-saxes\/g-h-huller\">G. H. H\u00fcller<\/a>). Finally in 1984, the 7th, and final, firm was added to B&amp;S: Sinfonia.<\/p>\n<p>This section of my site deals with the horns of the VEB Blechblas- und Signal-Instrumenten-Fabrik (B&amp;S).
