{"id":8432,"date":"2015-10-26T10:40:15","date_gmt":"2015-10-26T17:40:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bassic-sax.info\/version5\/?page_id=8432"},"modified":"2021-01-04T10:51:34","modified_gmt":"2021-01-04T12:51:34","slug":"weltklang-vs-blue-label-baritones","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/bassic-sax.info\/version5\/vintage-saxes\/european-made-saxes\/veb-blechblas-und-signal-instrumenten-fabrik-bs\/weltklang-vs-blue-label-baritones\/","title":{"rendered":"Weltklang vs Blue Label Baritones"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Weltklang vs Blue Label baritones: What are the differences?<\/h2>\n<p>As I mentioned on the previous<a href=\"http:\/\/bassic-sax.info\/version5\/vintage-saxes\/european-made-saxes\/veb-blechblas-und-signal-instrumenten-fabrik-bs\/bs-aka-blue-label\"> B&amp;S model page<\/a>, the main differences between the Weltklang and the step-up model B&amp;S include*:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Tone hole placement: &#8211; the blue label horns have <a href=\"http:\/\/bassic-sax.info\/version5\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/1966-Selmer-Mark-VI-low-A-alto-disassembled-front-view..jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">offset tone holes<\/a> like modern saxophones do, rather than inline ones.<\/li>\n<li>Left pinkie cluster: the B&amp;S had their G#, C#, B, and Bb keys <a href=\"http:\/\/bassic-sax.info\/version5\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/07\/Left-Pinkie-Cluster.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">coupled together<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>*Not all features of B&amp;S saxophones were found on baris. EG: high F# keys.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to these differences that all B&amp;S blue label saxes shared, the baritones differed greatly in one other area: bell construction.<\/p>\n<h2>Bell construction on the Weltklang baritone<\/h2>\n<p>I have not seen a Weltklang baritone that wasn&#8217;t keyed down to low A. I&#8217;m not aware that they made any low Bb baris. However, when they added the low A, they choose to use a method similar to the one that Conn employed with their 11M. Therefore the bell&#8217;s attached conical bore is even shorter.<\/p>\n<p>Does this make a difference to the way a Weltklang plays vis-\u00e0-vis an 11M? Even if I had, &#8220;better&#8221; is often subjective, and open to personal feelings and opinions. That said, I did own a <a href=\"http:\/\/bassic-sax.info\/version5\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/07\/Right-Side.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">2004 Medusa bari<\/a>. (<a href=\"http:\/\/bassic-sax.info\/version5\/modern-saxes\/vogtlandische-musikinstrumentenfabrik-gmbh-markneukirchen-vmi\">Made by VMI,<\/a> and a successor to these horns.) Was it &#8220;better&#8221; than my Mark VI? No. Was it better than my Committee III?
