<\/a>How Franz K\u00f6hler began his career<\/h2>\n

Franz K\u00f6hler\u2014not to be confused with Kohlert<\/strong>\u2014was born in Graslitz in 1895. He began learning his trade while at H\u00f6fer in Graslitz from 1909-1912. H\u00f6fer is a nearly forgotten musical instrument company from the 19th century. The only instrument that I could find from them is this antique wooden flute<\/a> catalogued by the Library of Congress.<\/p>\n

While finishing his journeyman’s certification in 1913, K\u00f6hler worked for Carl Kruspe<\/a> in Leipzig, Oscar Adler<\/a>, and finally with Gebr. M\u00f6nning<\/a>. He ended up staying with Gebr. M\u00f6nning until 1933.<\/a><\/p>\n

After leaving Gebr. M\u00f6nning, Franz K\u00f6hler started his own, independent workshop at Erlbacherstr. 22 in Markneukirchen. It was in this workshop that he began making alto and tenor Empor model saxophones. Even in these early days K\u00f6hler was already supplying saxophones to companies like C.A. Wunderlich and Schuster, and was employing up to 10 journeymen.<\/p>\n
