(Helen) This sax was presumably made by A.E. Sax and not the Selmer company under Sax's name. The seller claimed that this saxophone was made in 1920. If this is correct, then this would pre-date the Selmer takeover of the Sax shop by approximately 8 years.

However, the serial number is low, and the other altos in this gallery, as well as the soprano at the National Music Museum, all have serial numbers with 5 digits. Furthermore, the soprano at the museum (#15352) was made sometime between approximately 1900 - 1907.

Perhaps this is a Selmer-made Soprano after all. There are not enough photos of these rarities around for me to say with certainty. I will leave under the A.E. Sax category for now. If I do get any evidence to prove that this is a Selmer horn, I'll create a new category for it.
