This alto is Conn’s top-top of the line, spare-no-expense model with triple gold plate, extensive engraving, and pearls on every key. These horns were special orders, and they are very very rare.

This one was ordered with a portrait of a child holding a pumpkin on the bell. It has tons of other engraving all over as well. I thought it would be fun to list it around Halloween.

The virtuoso finish Conns are ONLY the ones with the pearl inlay on every key and with engraving all the way up the body tube. Most horns listed as Virtuoso’s online are just the regular gold plated examples – still cool, but way more common to see than a true Virtuoso finish. This horn is very desirable for that reason. It is also in excellent physical condition, as you can see from the photos. There’s a little bit of wear on the touch points just from being played. This horn is my favorite kind to buy – beautiful, clean, undamaged, but obviously played and loved. Usually horns like this that were lovingly cared for and played are extremely good players. This one promises to be one of those.

You have to use your imagination to think of the finish as being very easy to hand polish back to a perfect-looking, gleaming kind of shine. The shadows and spots there will totally disappear when this horn gets cleaned up. After that, you will have a horn that has more and thicker gold plate and more engraving and pearls than just about any other saxophone ever made. These horns rarely come up for sale, and more rarely in great condition like this.
