Figure of a lion appears on the bell along with the engraving. Contact's father learned to play the instrument in the 1920's.

Configuration is in the style of Distin instruments.

Instrument is both high and low pitch according to Arne Larson. Larson's date is 1916. Serial number and characteristics of construction do not jibe with York's serial number list.

Since the signature indicates J.W. York and Son rather than Sons, this instrument could have been made prior to 1898

Instrument was used in a cornet band in Pennsylvania ca. 1903. Instrument comes with additional mouthpiece extensions , slide tubes and lyre in original case. Silver-plated brass.

Main tuning slide is very long. Originally had two slides. Original receiver was quite small. 4th valve slide tubing is on the back of the upper bow.

Instrument is shepherd's crook design and has a gold tint inside the bell (gold wash or polished brass). Instrument also has a detachable lead pipe and a split water key on the main tuning slide and the 3rd valve slide.

Instrument comes with additional main slide and first and third valve slides. Mouthpiece is stamped "E.B. Llewellyn Personal Model." Square wooden case covered in black fabric with reinforced corners. Valve number and serial number are stamped on each valve inside the top cover.

Instrument has crooks in Bb and C with one removeable leadpipe, forked water key. Instrument is silver-plated with gold-plated accents on leadpipe, finger buttons, top/bottom valve caps, tuning slides, water key and inside of bell. Bore is .455. Instrument has been restored.

Mouthpiece is York and Sons. Arne Larson estimated date of manufacture as 1923. W-shaped tuning slide.

Date of manufacture estimated by Arne Larson at 1910. Mouthpiece is stamped York and Sons. High pitch? Similar to the York model 30 in the Oliver Ditson Guidebook #2 from the 1920s. This instrument does not have the extra doughnut of tubing for conversion.

Instrument is a 3-valve upright, silver-plated. This instrument does not bear the July 12, 1910 patent date.

"Speciale Style." Bore is .465. fixed leadpipe, high/low pitch achieved with tuning slides, second leadpipe slide with mechanism for quick change to A.

Three-valve top action. Bell is 20 inches.

Instrument is HP/LP. Bears the inscription "New Model Monarch".

"Monarch New Model" Bore is .465. Instrument is virutally identical to a "Wurlitzer" cornet with which the owner is familiar. (The Wurlitzer is likely an unmarked York stencilled by the Wurlitzer company.) Instrument is identical to 20348.

"Professional" model.

Long model cornet. "S' model. Bore is .435. Leadpipe has three slide crooks. Third slide bears Bb-A removable ladder.

Five valved instrument. #142 is stamped on fifth (selector) valve. The instrument looks like an 1895 Conn. The instrument has W shaped tuning slides.

High pitch? Extra tuba added to the lead pipe to convert it to low pitch.
