Lovely Conn 12M Up For Auction

If you are in the market for a vintage bari, then quite likely a Conn 12M is one you’re considering. If so, then the fully restored, Naked Lady circa 1959, that Randy Cole currently has for sale, should be on your radar screen. Randy’s horns are usually quite lovely, and this Conn 12M does not disappoint.

While often the baris you see on eBay are beaten to shit, this baby seems to have come through life with very little damage.

A couple of minor dings, and some resoldering of posts here and there, but overall, this bari is in lovely condition.

And just how much nakedness is on the Naked Lady you ask?

Is it just me, or does she appear to be showing quite a lot of skin?

This is how Randy Cole describes this lovely Conn 12:

This ‘Naked Lady’ is certainly not shy! We started out with a very nice late ’50’s pro horn, and Al McLean has done a full top to bottom overhaul. For those of you unfamiliar with Al McLean, he’s not only one of the best players in this hemisphere, he’s the go-to overhaul expert for pro players in the Montreal / New York / Toronto corridor. Indeed, most of the pro players within striking distance of Al are playing on horns he’s built. Definitely someone I’m a big admirer of, I’m very happy he makes time for some of my more special instruments.

The horn sounds AMAZING, with a wonderful booming and rich voice. Ergonomically, it’s actually quite easy to play, and will give any Mark VI a serious run for its money. Al has used all original materials, with the exception of firm, modern and waterproof pads. Natural cork and felt has been installed, and the instrument has been tightened up, refined, and perfected by Al. Have a look and listen below to the embedded film, you can hear the horn in action.

Cosmetics are rated as Good, with some normal signs of age, and a few re-soldered posts. Please see detailed pictures below for a good idea of condition. The horn comes with a good case of similar age, with a new handle. Guaranteed to wither flowers, and impress the patrons in the bar across the street!
