(Helen) This sax was made by Adolphe Sax's son before he sold the company to Selmer in 1928. Although there are no serial number charts for these instruments, the National Music Museum has a soprano made by Adolphe Edouard with the serial number 15352 in their collection. That soprano has the same street address stamped on the bell, and is circa 1900-1907 according to the museum. All other sites provide the range of Adolphe Edouard horn from 1907-1928.

This rather rare bird is only the second C-pitched A.Sax horn that I have come across—the other is owned by the National Music Museum—and certainly is the only one that I have seen in person.

Note: Upon checking the museum's Sax Saxophone page, I could no longer see the sax. Maybe I have it confused with another museum, or the parted with it?

This sax has the standard range of low Bb to high F.

I received a phone call from the owner of this C-pitched rarity, and had the opportunity to see the horn in person. The owner doesn't play saxophone, and was given the horn years ago in partial payment for monies owed. The owner decided it was time to research the horn, and decide what to do with it, since he does not plan on learning how to play.

Although I was briefly tempted, I opted not to buy the horn, but referred him to my tech, who is currently rebuilding the horn. As you can see in some of the photos, this Adolphe Sax horn is in very rough condition, and needs a lot of work. This is really a labour of love for my tech, and he is carefully, and painstakingly, researching the missing pieces so that he can faithfully machine them so they look original.
