Wow! What a day…It was overcast…It spit rain…It was sunny…But most of all…It was BLUE!
The sound of Blues rocked the downtown today, as Deception played the 27th Annual Abbotsford Berry Beat Festival. Our 45 minute show was filled with the solid vocals of Art, Gary, & Steve; Art’s inspiring guitar solos; solid bass lines courtesy of Steve; Gary’s amazing drum rhythms; & my signature, screeching sax solos.
I love this shot. It was taken during one of our new songs where Art and I play multiple improvised duets together.

A big “Thank You” needs to go out to the sound guys: Dave from Tom Lee Music, and Asgar from A&D Music, for their outstanding work. The sound people are without a doubt, the unsung heroes at all live events. They allow the musicians to sound their best. So thanks Dave & Asgar! You’re great to work with ❗
After I staggered, literally, my way off the stage (I’m sure there were LOTS of people in the audience wondering how the hell the band could allow such a drunkard on stage to play with them) and had put my gear away, I just wanted and needed to crash.
The downtown where this street festival is held each year, is on a series of minor hills. Although the stage was pretty damn close to perfectly level, navigating the streets was tiring, even with my cane. I didn’t want to use my cane on stage at all however. Call it pride maybe, but most would probably call it stupid. My balance disorder was really apparent, and I found myself doing quite a number of side-steps to prevent myself from falling. Next time, I should probably just use my cane.
