I’m not surprised that they have music tests to get into the bands. These bands sound extremely good, so obviously the playing level is fairly high.
For about 5 years, I played in a few bands that marched, but it’s not really a big deal here in Canada… Not like it is in the States. We did the competition thing, etc. I don’t remember much about it anymore, other than I was really glad I only played tenor, and not the bari or something like the sousaphone! 😮
I’m surprised how comfortable the string bass is when you march with it, be aware that it does hurt your back after 2 blocks.
There’s 2 bass saxophones in there, I will be the third added on once I get my music test. Yes we have music tests for that. There are actually 6 upright bass fiddles, numerous saxophones, 3 violins, 5 accordions, and only 2 drummers.
Hahahaha!!! It’s tupac!
The mummers are not known ONLY for New Year’s Day ya know. There’s the spring serenade and countless parades and weddings that every string band participates in during the year.
Here’s the latest clip of FERKO String Band during the spring serenade for Fralinger.
I only noticed 1 bass sax with the band. What’s up with that? But I did notice 4 upright basses. I don’t know which I would rather march with less.
I think it’s a toss-up. Both would be awful but for different reasons. The sax because of its weight. The string bass because it’s awkward.
It’s not a toomah.
OMG – a well-hung sax! I’m LMAO 😆
