If you’re a fan of rockabilly, then you probably like—or will like, if you have yet to hear them—The Stray Cats. This famous band that Brian Setzer has fronted since the 80s, had a string of hits early on such as Rock This Town, Stray Cat Strut, and (She’s) Sexy + 17.
One of the songs that was on the their self-titled first album was Wild Saxophone. Although this song wasn’t a single, and didn’t get airplay, it certainly hit my radar screen.
Courtesy of YouTube, here’s the original version of Wild Saxophone.
While I was looking for a recording of Wild Saxophone on You Tube, I happened across this cover version by The Greyhounds. This Poughkeepsie, New York-based band has been together since 2001. They are all seasoned musicians, who put on a very dynamic show.

The Greyhounds’ saxophonist, Steven Geenfield, seems to only play alto. In their version of Wild Saxophone, they give him more of a chance to shine by giving him more solo time than the original sax player had.
I like both of these versions of Wild Saxophone, but I’m always a sucker for a song that features more sax.
Phatt sax sound. Luv it!
