There is a little something on eBay right now that is clearly from another time: a time when smoking a cigarette wasn’t socially more unacceptable than being a convicted felon.
This vintage, saxophone-shaped cigarette lighter is most definitely from a simpler time. It’s from a time when the Marlboro Man was still the epitome of ruggedness, and when women were told “You’ve come a long way, baby”, when they choose Virginia Slims.

The seller of this little retro gem describes the item like this:
very unusual saxophone lighter.
very detailed, unsigned….. I think it may be from a MARLBORO Promotion??
I dont really know much about lighters. It is a push down and clicks…. the fire comes out of the mouth of sax. needs fluid very good shape, some minor wear….
Ah, no to the Marlboro promotion. No to promotions in general. A promotional lighter would have a company name on it.
This is just a regular cigarette lighter that happens to be in the shape of a saxophone. Rather interesting for us who play the sax, and happen to be into saxophone collectibles.

If this cigarette lighter is something that you think would look good in your curio cabinet, you have until April 25 to get your bid in. Bids are to start at $9.99.
At the time of writing there were no bids yet on this lighter that, as long as you don’t us it for its intended purpose, won’t turn you into a social pariah at your next dinner party. 😉
Update: This saxophone lighter found a new home. The solitary bidder paid $8.99 in order to be the proud, new owner.
