The Currently Available Rico Graftonite & Metalite Mouthpieces

This entry is part 13 of 13 in the series Rico Mouthpieces

I get an incredible amount of traffic on my site looking for information on Rico mouthpieces. I decided now that the reintroduced Metalite line-up is complete, it was time to do up a chart of all the currently available Metalite, as well as Graftonite offerings.

While Rico used to note the tip openings on the side of the their boxes, this is no longer the case. Furthermore, Rico does not list any tip opening information on their website. However, when asked, Rico will claim that the old tip openings from their original Metalite mouthpieces, are the ones that are being used on the new pieces.

When compiling this chart, I used solely the information on the Rico website

Note that I said Rico claims that the tip openings on their new Metalite mouthpieces are the same as their old ones. Sax repair tech Kim Slava has done his own measurements, and posted them on his doctorsax.biz website. Kim’s findings are very interesting, and show that what Rico was striving for, and what they actually produced, are somewhat different.

Also included on this page from Kim’s website, is a full facing chart for the Graftonite mouthpieces. I wonder if these measurements are Kim’s findings, or come from Rico directly? I also wonder how close these measurements are to the original mouthpieces that Arnold Brilhart designed for Rico in the 1980s.

In any event, I felt that this Series on Rico Mouthpieces wouldn’t be complete without a listing of all the currently available Graftonite and Metalite offerings. What you do with all this information is up to you, but now you have it. 😀

…this is just my blog. My “real” website is www.bassic-sax.info. If you’re looking for sax info, you should check it out too. There’s lots there!

    Hi Ms. Helen.

I got a new info (but I don’t know how true is this):
A seller told me that currently Alto/Tenor Metalite are smooth finish and Baritone/Soprano are rough.

    Regards
