For years we’ve seen perfectly good, real, vintage horns—read pro models—bastardized into table lamps. The worst by far was the Mark VI alto that was ended up with Cybersax a number of years ago.
I have always maintained that student horns were the perfect candidates for such sacrificial offerings, and that pro model horns should be left in piece. Pardon the pun.
It seems that someone thinks the same way I do, and has spared a pro model sax from maiming, by converting a Bundy II into a table lamp. Perhaps it was simply a happy coincidence, and the person making the lamp didn’t have a King Silver Sonic, or a Martin Typewriter available to them at time.
Whatever the circumstances, this alto table lamp made out of a Bundy II is currently up for sale on eBay.

The very enthusiastic seller describes this lamp like this:
You are looking at a very rare item that would provoke many collectors to jealousy. This is a Selmer Bundy II Alto Saxophone that was creatively converted from art to art, music to sculputure. Whether your interest is in musical collecting, or you just have a love of music and are in need a fashionable furniture piece, look no further. You might never find this kind of oppurtunity or model with this design anywhere else! The saxophone itself is in good condition and still sports the original laquer. There are some scuffs and scratches due to normal age wear, however these actually add to the lamps appeal in my opinion. They provide a more antigual look. The scuffs are not noticeable from a distance. The sax is firmly planted in a quality made marble base through which the golden chord filiaments through to reach the light source at the top. Yes the lamp functions! The whole lamp weighs over 8 pounds, so it’s not cheap by no means! It is a great way to fill that hungry void in your studio or living room. The musical note shade is included with this purchase. Any international buyers will have to have the shipping calculated. Thanks!
If you have any questions or comments about this rarety, don’t hesitate to ask!

OK, so the horn itself isn’t at all rare. Lamps made out of saxophones aren’t all that rare either. As a matter of fact, there’s a lamp made from a Holton alto on eBay at the moment right now as well. However, it is considerably more expensive.
If you are interested in this Bundy II lamp, it can be yours for $250.00. If that’s more than you want to pay, the seller is willing to accept offers.
According to eBay, it appears that there are another 24 days left on the listing for this Bundy II lamp conversion.
Update: Yup, this Bundy II alto, that has been reincarnated as a table lamp, sold for $250. I wonder if the new owner knows that he/she has “a very rare item that would provoke many collectors to jealousy.” 😆
Even Louis Jordan had a saxophone lamp! A curved soprano lamp. What brand?
I have no idea what brand it is, but what an interesting idea. There are lots of badly built, newer model, curved sopranos that I could think of, that would be perfect candidates for this! :devil2:
