What’s going on in Saxophoneland?

As I continue to ponder the future of my website past this fall when my hosting contract is up for renewal, I must admit I am pretty saddened by the state of the Internet. The Net has always been the wild west when it comes to information, but these days the total bullshit on social media is no longer the worst we have to keep an eye out for.

These days AI is being used to create total fiction all over the Net. This could be just as true in saxophoneland as anywhere else. The content management system I use now has AI built into it and offers free content creation for its users.

If I was the lazy sort, I could have AI write all my content for me. If monetization was my sole driving force, then yes, AI would certainly be very tempting. It would be a quick and dirty way to create a boatload of content for free with almost no effort and zero thought.

Let’s let that one sit here for just one moment.

The World Book of saxophone sites

Anyone remember the World Book and Childcraft encyclopedia sets from school? Yup, I’m a Gen X’er and we had them in our elementary and high schools. Hell, my mom even bought a set for our house.

I realize that sites like mine are the encyclopedia of the Internet. Who reads anymore? These days people prefer information in video format such as YouTube and Tiktok. And if you do happen to do a search on Google for a topic, its AI feature synthesizes your search results into a Pablum so you don’t have to click onto multiple source sites. (How many of those were written by AI?  ) It leaves real researchers and writers who create content wondering just what we’re doing, and why we’re even doing it.

Something to think about as you look for info

I encourage you to seriously consider what and who you listen to when it comes to online sources. It doesn’t matter if you’re looking for saxophone information; a review on a new home appliance; or info on the current weather patterns in your area. There is a good chance that what you’re reading was not created by an actual human being, but by a bot using AI.

AI is only as intelligent as the people inputting the content. And adaptive AI is not anywhere near smart enough to figure out what to do with conflicting information on the same topic. We are watching this play itself out in real time right now in various places all over the net. July 2025 has not been a good month for AI.
