Well unless you’re using something shaped like this…

Now don’t worry, there is still time to get your bid in on this sax-shaped lighter. The auction for this sax collectible runs until July 26. At the time of writing there were 2 bids on this item. The high bid was $21.50.
…this is just my blog. My “real” website is www.bassic-sax.info. If you’re looking for sax info, you should check it out too. There’s lots there!
Update: Well this lighter ended up selling for $22.50. I hope that a sax player bought it. I was tempted to bid, but truth be told: For all the eBay window shopping I do, I have never bought anything through the on-line auction site.
Yes, these old time lighters can have a multitude of uses. I just like them for their nostalgic value, and have a few in a curio cabinet along with some other 50s and 60s paraphernalia. The seller estimated this piece from that era also. I don’t know if that’s the case or not, but it certainly is rather unique. I have never seen one like it before.
Cute! Even for non-smokers, a lighter is a handy thing to have for swelling corks, setting or melting glue (depending what kind of glue), showing one’s opinion of truly bad music, and of course, lighting someone ELSE’s smoke (or in my case, the cigar I allow myself once or twice a year).
The butane torch style (which this appears to be) is a considerably different beast from your average pocket Bic. You can do field repairs of broken solder joints with one of these — and I have! Just be careful not to scorch the lacquer or anneal the springs, they easily run hot enough to do both of these things in under a second.
