The original recording of Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree, was released by Decca Records in 1958.¹ Brenda Lee was the 14 year old performer whose vocals would eventually propel this tune into a classic holiday favourite.
However, if I’m featuring this on my site, you know this tune has gotta’ have a saxophone in it. The sax player on the original recording of Brenda Lee’s holiday classic, was none other than the late Boots Randolph.
While this song might have been covered by many artists—recently by pop star Miley Cyrus, who was only a couple of years older than Lee was when she first recorded the tune—the original is still the holiday classic. Interestingly enough, it did not break into the Billboard charts until 1960—after Lee became popular with hits such as Sweet Nothin’s.

When I was a kid I could almost feel that dad would say that rocking around the Christmas tree would only cause it to fall down. I reckon he was probably right.
