Sax Gourmet Model Tenor Saxophone

When I was at World Wide Sax the other day, Sarge was kind enough to allow me to play-test his personal Sax Gourmet Model tenor saxophone. It really is an amazing instrument.

I’m not sure exactly when or where I first heard about Steve Goodson’s variety of horns he designed for Orpheus, but I know I first saw this copper coloured beauty in Sarge’s shop in late August when I dropped my 10M off with him. With its colour, the Sax Gourmet model is very hard to miss.

Steve released a series of YouTube videos about the different horns he designed for Orpheus. Here is the one for the Sax Gourmet Model tenor. It, like the other videos in the series, features Derek Nash from England, providing you with a sound sample of sax.

When I played the sax, I was astounded at the richness in tone, the volume of the horn, and the lushness of the subtones. In short, I really did hear things in it, that I haven’t heard in other tenor saxophones. This wasn’t just advertising hype that Steve provided.

A well-known SOTW member, Randall, bought one of these horns, and started a thread about it, as a type of review. The reviews are very favourable.

But you know what they say… All good things…

Apparently the Sax Gourmet Model tenor sax has sold out, and is no longer in production. It will be replaced with a new model. To date, this new model is not yet available, so no review on it yet. Time will tell whether it will be as good as its predecessor.

…this is just my blog. My “real” website is www.bassic-sax.info. If you’re looking for sax info, you should check it out too. There’s lots there!
