Last night I had the chance to upload a couple of new galleries to Bassic Sax Pix. These new photos are quite unique, because they are of a couple of seldom-seen, Max Keilwerth saxophones.
The first set of photos are of Mars tenor 1878. It is very interesting, because it was a seldom-used horn, and still had its original mouthpiece (also marked Pure Tone Trade Mark), when it was sold by a member of SOTW a couple of years ago.
The second tenor is even more interesting. It is President tenor 51XX, but not a Hohner model. This President was made by Max before he went to work for Hohner in Trossingen, Germany.
The owner of President 51XX also owns a number of Hohner President tenor saxophones, so he was good enough to take some comparative photos of the 2 models of Presidents side by side.
These 2 saxophones show us how Max Keilwerth refined his President model of saxophone after he moved to Germany from Graslitz.
The True Tone Trade Mark President is one of the later horns that Max Keilwerth made, while the Hohner is an early one. It is from 1953—the first year that Hohner used rolled tone holes on its horns.
Nice pics!
Yes indeed they are. There are supposed to be even better ones coming eventually. Apparently Theo was not that happy with the lighting, so he is planning on redoing them.
This was his first crack at taking digital photos of very shiny objects. I remember my first attempts. I deleted all of them, and gave up on digital photography for a while.
