On November 6, it will be the anniversary of Adolphe Sax’s birth. He was born in Dinant, Belgium on that day in 1814. In light of that impending anniversary, I thought it would be interesting to take a look a statute that was erected in his honour, in his birthplace.
Two photographers photographed the same saxophone statute in Dinant, but their interpretations were very different.
Luetta’s photo places the statue in place & time for us.

Whereas Jean-Marie HUET’s photo is stylized, and shot in such a manner that the saxophone appears to be floating on air.

There are a number of saxophone statues located in Dinant. This small Belgian town certainly shows a lot of pride for its hometown son, who changed the musical landscape forever.
