Well it’s nearly that time of year, and if you haven’t started already, chances are many of you will soon start the annual shopping extravaganza known as holiday shopping in retail hell. Of course shopping patterns have changed a lot over the last few years, and many people now buy many gifts online. This is why a number of years ago, I started putting together an [almost] annual list of online Christmas and holiday gifts for sax players. For the 2016 holiday season I thought I would kick of the list in style, with a lovely crystal saxophone from Bavaria.
When I lived in Germany, I had a friend who lived in Passau, Bavaria. I spent quite a bit of time with Sabine, and got to know the region fairly well. There were quite a lot of crystal houses in the area that made the most amazing glass objects I had ever seen. One of my favourite keepsakes is a crystal beer stein that was a gift from someone I wish I hadn’t lost touch with. But I digress…
Had I seen one of these crystal saxophones at the time, I would likely have bought it.

We get it, it’s fantastic. Now please stop yelling. Thank you. 😉 It still amazes me how many people don’t know that all caps = SHOUTING!
In any event, this crystal saxophone from Bavaria was made by the Hofbauer company. Unfortunately like so many German companies, it no longer exists. It closed its doors in approx. the mid-90s, which makes this saxophone collectible somewhat rarer—and potentially more collectible in certain circles.
Here are the rest of the pics of this crystal saxophone…
If you know of a saxophone player who would love this Bavarian crystal saxophone, or would like to buy it for yourself, then you have until November 25 to make that happen. However, this saxophone collectible has a BIN price of $140 US, so if someone beats you to it, then you might lose out if you wait. At the time of writing there were 2 people watching the sale. (No, I am not one of them.)
You might include the sound quality this sax can produce
Good one.
I would suspect the tone would be crystal clear… 😉 Groan…
Lovely, pity it’s in the US.
Being picky, the seller has something slightly wrong – The certificate says 24% PbO – which is lead (II) oxide, not pure lead.
You’re being very precise. Almost, um, German, about the description. 😉
Yes, it is very pretty. This is something I would prefer to buy in person. I would be frightened that it would get damaged in shipping.
