When I received the email informing me that my blog had been included, I was surprised to say the least. I was even more surprised when I started looking through the list and suddenly realized that my Bassic Sax Blog was in the #1 spot!
The list was compiled by the SR Education Group of Kirkland, Washington, which ranked 50 of the best music blogs out there.
The topics of the blogs is diverse, and range from opera to ragtime piano, to music therapy, to symphony orchestras, to indie bands, and everything in between. No matter what style of music floats your boat, or what instrument you play, you will most likely find a blog on the list that is of interest to you.
The blogs all share at least one thing in common: they are written by musicians, and therefore tell their stories from the perspective of being a musician.
I was both very flattered and humbled to be in the company of some of these other musicians’ blogs. Do check some of them out. They are great!
Oh, and on the topic of checking things out, SR Education Group has also compiled listings for other top blogs in categories such as photojournalism, digital art, photo, anime and manga, webcomics, as well as a number of others. You can find these all on the Tips & Tools page of the Guide to Art Schools.
Agreed with the congratulations. It’s good to see someone outside our little clique of saxophiliacs acknowledge quality.
That’s a word, right? If there is a saxophobia, there should be a saxophilia too!
Thanks Mal-2.
I like the words saxophiliac/saxophilia. You should add them to the urban dictionary. 😈 I’m serious. Add them!
Kudos Helen and well deserved, this is one of the few sites that has been in my list for years and stood the test of time.
Thanks very much Jim.
I put in at least a couple of hours into research and/or writing for both my blog and my main site daily. It does make me feel like I’ve done something worthwhile when I hear from people that either I’ve helped them solve a problem that they’ve had for years, or helped them pick out the ideal mouthpiece, or what have you. Or sometimes it’s as simple as preventing them from making a horrible mistake when going out and horn shopping for the first time.
It’s really remarkable when you think about it. I still can’t quite get over the changes in technology in the last decade that have allowed for such a wide and rapid dissemination of knowledge across the globe.
