In case any of you saxophiles are interested in this, and missed it, there is currently an F Mezzo Soprano sax on eBay. The auction is running until October 20th, so you still have a few days left to either bid, or drool. (Thanks Jim, for mentioning it on the Woodwind Forum, I hadn’t seen it yet.)

The 24M, Conn F Mezzo Soprano was produced for only a few years (between 1928-1930) and was keyed from low Bb to high F, the same as a regular saxophone. It used the same mouthpiece as the 22M, Conn-O-Sax Alto (of which there is currently one also for sale on eBay, but that’s a post for another day), but the 24M’s sound was more “sopranoish” than the Conn-O-Sax’s.
You can check out the sound of the F Mezzo for yourself on Jay Easton’s website. Jay has some sound samples of his 24M, and some photos where you can see the difference in size between it & an Eb alto. For more information about the the Conn F Mezzo Soprano you should check out saxpics.com.
As far as the current 24M on eBay goes, it appears to be in good condition, however in need of a rebuild, so it will be interesting to see where the final price ends up.
