Under the category of WTF? Michal Ochman shot a fabulous photo a few weeks ago of a very strange subject.
On March 4, 2012, Ochman took this photo in Krakow, Poland, of what at first blush appears to be a statue. However, upon closer inspection of this shot at its full size, you can clearly see this is a real man with what appears to be a modified, Proll-O-Tone toy saxophone.
Green sax guy

So is this guy busking? Is he an actor? Why is he painted green with brown dyed leather clothing, standing on a matching brown leather bag, with a matching brown pitcher in front of him? Is he doing performance art? What’s his story?
Regardless of what story the photo is telling, it certainly is an eye catcher. If anyone knows what is really going on here, please chime in. It would be great to know what this is all about.
Hello dave. Hello Kevgermany. Welcome both to my site.
Thanks dave for that info about seeing him in Vienna just a few days ago. It seems this green man really gets around. Next stop… France… I’m sure he’d do well under the Eifel Tower.
Now that you mention it Kevin, I do remember a photo that a photographer captured in the UK a few years ago. Although a clown, that performance artist used his real sax to raise money for charity. (I wrote an article about it at the time.)
Helen, this is a common sight in Europe, especially in the more touristy cities.
Known as a living statue, they dress up, stand really still and there’s always a collection basket in front of them. Fairly lucrative, no real training required.
Not seen one in green before, more usually silver or gold.
:saxy:
He’s just begging. I saw him in Vienna a couple of days ago, standing in the main shopping street pretending to be a statue. He doesn’t play or anything
