Update June 2024: This peg has log since no longer been available to the best of my knowledge. I am keeping this article here only for the purposes of reference, and in case anyone is interested in making something like this for themselves.
For years I have thought about getting my tech to make a floor peg for my bass saxophone. Then this morning I happened across something very interesting on eBay: this telescopic floor peg for Buescher True Tone bass saxophones, which is hand-made by someone in Italy.
This concept is by no means new. Quite a few new bass, and even baritone saxophones come with floor pegs. There are threads on SOTW dedicated to players discussing making their own for their baritone saxophones (1 & 2).
However, none of the floor pegs that I have come across in my research of the topic thus far are quite like this one from Italy. The fellow who made it specifically created his as a telescopic floor peg for Buescher True Tone bass saxophones.
This is how the fellow who made this accessory, and is selling it, describes it:

It is possible also achieve the PIN END, tailored for other brands of bass saxophone (eg for CONN BASS SAXOPHONE)
with the same principle that is to say, into contact without welding.
Naturally in this case it will be necessary precise measurements of the engagement point connected by welding,which is in relief between the bell and the curve.

The designer of this telescopic floor peg for Buescher True Tone bass saxophones, makes some interesting claims about his product. He addresses some of the main concerns that I have always had about adding a peg to my Buescher bass:
- It doesn’t interfere with the instrument’s sonority.
- It allows for the instrument to be played both seated and standing.
- It doesn’t need to be removed when the instrument is stored in its case or stood up in its stand.
- The added bonus is that it appears to attach without the need for welding.
Obviously based on his description, the telescopic floor peg for Buescher True Tone bass saxophones is custom-made upon ordering. Since the designer says he is willing to send more photos of the prototype upon request, I’m going to ask him to send me some. If you does, I will post them here when they arrive.
