My website has become the Net’s go-to site for information on vintage German saxophones from companies including: Hohner, Dörfler & Jörka, Hammerschmidt, Herb Couf, and B&S. Over the weekend I added scanned copies of a Weltklang folder from 1980, which enhances the B&S section even further.
VEB Blechblas- und Signal-Instrumenten-Fabrik (B&S)
The VEB, B&S was the manufacturer of Weltklang musical instruments. Saxophone players who like vintage horns are likely familiar with the Weltklang offerings that ranged from soprano through to bari.
A man from Norway was good enough to send me a Weltklang folder from 1980, which contained the saxophones and brass winds that the company was producing at the time. For saxophone players the most interesting pages will be:
- Covers (inside) Contains a guide to the finish & model codes used throughout
- Alto 231 & Tenor 241 (with a high F# key)
- Alto 232 & Tenor 242 (with the high F# key)
- Bari 252
- Soprano 262
I did post all the other weird and wonderful brass winds the company made back in the day—things that rarely were seen in brass wind groups outside of Europe—so that brass players too could find useful materials in their informational quests.
A complete listing of instruments in this Weltklang folder can be found on the folder’s index page.
Great resource, many thanks Helen.
I have (apart from a shedload of Martin’s…) B&S tenor and bari and an elderly rth Weltklang bari.
