As I originally mentioned in an article on May 19, I finally began the process that I have had the back of my mind for years now: Totally retooling the bass sax section of Bassic Sax. My goal is to have it mostly redone by the end of the summer. Fingers crossed I’ll get there. So far I’m on track. It’s just a lot of work.
Since I have done a fair amount of work on it now, I thought I would bring it to your attention here. This gives anyone who is interested the opportunity to check it out.
As of this morning, these are the pages that have been updated/uploaded/created:
Under the category of vintage bass saxes
Conn bass saxophones: models & variations (second line & stencil page in the works)
Orsi bass saxophones (Updates the articles I have published here, on the Bassic Sax Blog.)
Orsi stencil bass saxophones (Same as above ^^.)
Under the category of modern bass saxes
Five bass saxophone models by J’Élle Stainer from Brazil:
Short wrap Low Bb Bass
Compact Bass
Low A French Wrap Bass
Traditional Low A Bass
Vintage Bass
Bass Saxophone Resources
This page lists the resources that I currently have available on Bassic Sax, as well as useful resources I have come across online.
So what’s next? What I am currently working on?
- My next task is to finish with Conn, by doing their Pan American & stencil horns.
- Once that’s done, I would like to finish the players page I have been working on for weeks now.
- I also have some new manufacturers to add. I have had pages that I worked on years ago, but never got around to publishing. Those are next up.
After that I have a long list of things to do. I am just trying to do a little bit every day, so we’ll see how it goes.
Comments? Ideas? Thoughts? Leave your ideas below in the comments form. I really do appreciate any suggestions and input you have. Thanks!
Would be cool to see some vintage Selmers (I have a 4 digit)
Yes, I am planning/updating a section on each of the brands listed on bass sax splash page. Those include:
Vintage American/American style, AKA Long Wrap Bass Saxophones:
>Buescher
>Buffet & Crampon, Evette & Schaeffer
>Conn>F.X. Hüller
>G.H. Hüller
>Gebr. Mönnig
>Holton
>Julius Keilwerth
>Oscar Adler
>Orsi-branded Bass Saxes>Orsi Stencil Bass Saxes>Rampone & Cazzani
>V. Kohlert’s Söhne
>W. Stowasser’s Söhne
French Style, AKA Short Wrap, Bass Saxophones
>Beaugnier
>Buffet & Crampon, Evette & Schaeffer
>Couesnon & Cie
>Millereau & Cie
>Pierret
>Selmer
The biggest challenge is going to be finding examples and/or info. For some I have the info, but no pics. For others I have the opposite problem.
Can I ask, what is the model of your 4-digit Selmer? Would you be willing to provide some photos of it? If so, that would be very helpful.
