The Bassic Sax Jazz Ensemble is a jazz combo specializing in standards from the 30s through the 70s, as well as some smooth jazz renditions of more modern songs.
Formed in late 2005, the band’s unusually spelled name pays homage to my 1922 Buescher bass saxophone (that actually gets used when we play at some larger venues with big stages).
The kinds of songs we perform include favorites such as:
- Ain’t Misbehavin’
- Bei Mir Bist Du Schoen
- Blue Moon
- Blue Skies
- Begin The Beguine
- Caravan
- Christmas Time Is Here
- Cry Me A River
- Desanfinado
- Don’t Get Around Much Anymore
- Fascinating Rhythm
- Fever
- Fly Me To The Moon
- Forever & For Always
- Georgia On My Mind
- Girl From Ipanema
- Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas
- It Don’t Mean A Thing
- Jingle Bell Rock
- La Vie En Rose
- Mack The Knife
- My Funny Valentine
- Over The Rainbow
- Pink Panther
- Perdido
- The Rose
- Satin Doll

This photo was shot quickly with a timer, just before we took took the stage for an MSA Museum fund raiser. From left to right, the members at the time were: Gary Huntbatch (drums); Steve Fultz (bass); Karen Durant (vocals). Jason Brown (keyboard) is squatting beside me. Oh yes, and that’s me with the sax.
