One thing that I learned very early on in my life as a bass sax player, is that bass saxophones require gear that is not always readily available. From replacement cases, to mouthpieces and reeds, to stands: finding the things you need can be a challenge.
Because Paul Coats had done a lot of research on all things bass before I bought my horn from him, I was lucky enough to have a fabulous resource.
Paul is very generous with his knowledge, and will readily share it with the sax playing community. Unfortunately due to the demise of the Runyon mouthpiece company, the blanks he used for bass pieces are no longer available. However, after reading Paul’s Mouthpiece page if you have any questions specific to adapting baritone to bass mouthpieces, contact him directly.
